FIRSTBAPTISTCHURCH
WHAT WE BELIEVE
Our identity as a new covenant church is founded upon what we believe about God, Jesus, humanity, and salvation. Below is a summary of our core beliefs.
God - We believe that God exists. We believe that there is one true God, the God of Christianity.
The Holy Trinity - The Father is God. The Father is not Jesus and the Father is not the Holy Spirit. The Lord Jesus Christ is God. Jesus is not the Father and Jesus is not the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is God. The Holy Spirit is not the Father and the Holy Spirit is not Jesus.
Jesus Christ - We believe that the Second Member of the Trinity (the Word of God or Logos) came to earth and took on a second nature, humanity. Jesus was born of the virgin Mary. Jesus is fully God and fully man yet without sin. During Jesus’ earthly ministry Jesus, though fully God, voluntarily non-used the incommunicable attributes of his deity. As such he lived in all respects like men. We believe that Jesus’ teaching was attested to by miracles from the Father and the Holy Spirit. His testimony is therefore trustworthy. We believe that Jesus died on the cross, was buried, and then rose from the dead on the third day. It was a physical resurrection. He did not just appear to be alive. He was subsequently seen by many witnesses (over 500 people) over a 40 day period. He then ascended into heaven and remains at the Father’s right hand until he personally returns to earth as it’s rightful king.
Holy Spirit - We believe that the Holy Spirit is God and was promised to fill believers at the point of salvation.
Humanity - We believe that mankind is sinful and in need of a savior. This is evidenced by death. A savior that can raise the dead unto eternal life and forgive sins is needed.
Salvation - We believe that God communicates salvation solely through the New Covenant whereby all who believe that the promises of eternal life and forgiveness of sin through the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ will come true, but not just that the promises will come true, but that the promise giver is able to fulfill these tremendous promises.
We believe the Bible is inspired by God and is infallible, the final authority in faith and life.
